So it was time for me to upgrade the multiple servers at work to HyperV 2012 R2.  I want to be able to use the new features when I migrate the remainder of our physical servers to virtual. So I wrote this article for anyone out there Upgrading Hyper V Server 2012 to Hyper V Server 2012 R2.

I have 3 servers all running Hyper V Server 2012 – which is the free core services that you get from Microsoft’s website.
Upgrading them to Hyper V Server 2012 R2 was alot easier then I expected & there isn’t many write ups explaining the simple process so I decided to to a post about it.
So lets start.

Shut down all your VM’s once this is done put the disk in the server for Hyper V Server 2012 (you can download the ISO by clicking here)

you need to use command prompt to launch the installer.

Once you have done this its as simple as following the prompts & selecting the upgrade option.
it should only take about an hour to complete the process depending on if you selected the option to download & install windows updates.
